Savvy Shopper: Best tips for interior decorating

    LIVING COLOUR

The latest arrivals from Australian linen company Aura include a sophisticated take on the classic French stripe, with fiery coral and pink shades to bump up the colour in your bedroom. Known for its graphic and modern looks, Aura’s new designs also apply to the bathroom with bold black and white striped bathmats and towels. Keep an eye out for a new range of tabletop items in the coming months. Wide stripe queen quilt cover in blush, $199. Aura Home, 1300 304 269, aurahome.com.au.

    NORTHERN LIGHTS

Norwegian-born designer Magnus Pettersen, who specialises in “industrial-luxury” looks, has designed the Leimu lamp for iittala, named after the Finnish word for flame. The coloured glass shade, blown in iittala’s factory in Southern Finland, sits on a concrete base in a streamlined but retro design, perfectly pairing the two materials. Leimu lamp in small, $1500 and large, $1650. For stockists, phone Design Mode International, 9998 8200, iittala.com.

    TIME WORN

Upcycled from a reclaimed German navy submarine, this tote bag hails from German company Peace4You. It makes bags from a variety of recycled materials that would otherwise end up in landfill. Father and son team Madoc and Mick Paul use French army tents, old leather jackets and navy kit bags, found at army surplus wholesalers, flea markets and waste recovery centres, which they turn into something new. The bags, as well as recycled felt planter pods and recycled sari patchwork throws, are sold via the Australian online store Upcycle Studio. German tote, $149. Upcycle Studio, 7901 6664, upcyclestudio.com.au.

    STICKING POINT

The Hub floor mirror stands firm due to its easel-style construction and protective rubber band around the edge to prevent it slipping on floors. In addition to this clever design element, tucked away behind the oval-shaped glass are rungs for hanging towels and clothing. This piece, as well as mirror wall hooks, an expandable towel holder and large round wall mirror are part of Hub’s contemporary beechwood and rubber range, new in at Blueprint. Hub floor mirror, $499 from Umbra. Blueprint, Shop 3, 46a Macleay Street, Potts Point, 9331 3488, blueprint.com.au.
