Q: My bedroom is 12 by 13 feet. I am looking for new furniture. I have room for a queen size bed and two nightstands. The wall to the right of the bed is all windows. The wall to the left has the door in it, and I will put a fish tank and stand close to the nightstand. Next to it I am thinking of a high chest of drawers. I don’t think I want a dresser with a mirror. What do you think of this?
A: There will be more interest to your room when you do not have tall furniture surrounding you. Your fish will agree. You can place standing drawers or bookcases below the windows. For the wall next to the fish tank, can you get by with just a dresser? If not, perhaps you might select additional drawers next to or in your closet. If you don’t like a mirror above a dresser, consider hanging a framed mirror on the wall above the dresser. It does not have to be attached.Still not happy? I think you need to have a mirror somewhere in the room. Do you have another space where you can hang a small shelf and have a mirror on the wall above it? If you are still saying no, hang a mirror in back of the door.•••Q: I am going to use wallpaper either in the foyer or living room. Is one area more important than the other?A: Wallpaper is back! (Some of us would say it never left!) I would love it in both areas; however, if only using it in one area, my choice would be the foyer. This is the area that welcomes your guests and even says “Welcome home” to you. Choose something washable and continue these colors into your living room. –
