Representatives of the Chattanooga Airport and Hoar Constructions says have broken ground on the airport’s $25 million, four-level and 1,300 space parking facility.
“Our new parking facility will create an additional layer of convenience and accessibility for the thousands of travelers who choose to fly out of the Chattanooga Airport,” said Terry Hart, president and CEO of the Chattanooga Airport. “In recent months, airports across the world have been forced to suspend major improvement projects. We’re very fortunate to be in the position to move forward with construction of this valuable new amenity for our passengers.”
Officials say that along with Hoar Constructions, the design-build team also includes MBI Companies, American Structural Concrete, International Parking Design and Culp & Tanner Structural Engineers. The parking garage is the first of multiple improvement and expansion projects planned in direct response to unprecedented growth over the past several years.
“Our team is very appreciative of this opportunity to be part of the Chattanooga Airport’s continuous success and growth,” said Will Gaither, project team leader with Hoar Construction. “We look forward to beginning the construction of this attractive and carefully designed facility that will benefit Chattanooga residents and travelers for many decades to come.”
The parking garage is expected to be complete within one year. In addition to parking improvements, the airport is planning the largest expansion to the passenger terminal since its opening in 1991. Design of the expanded terminal is expected to begin later this year.
